Liwa Primary School Project

Gugulethu Township. Cape Town. South Africa

History

In February 2004 a unique cricket match was held in Gugulethu township between Nyanga CC and The VCC cricket club from London.

Organized by the ex-Sussex professional cricket player Paul Phillipson the team visited Liwa Primary School within the township. As a result of a memorable day we decided to try and do what we could to support the children of Gugulethu Township.

Liwa Primary School is an oasis with an environment of considerable deprivation. School children from the age range from four to twelve years walk up to four miles a day in adverse conditions from their shanty style homes, often with little in their stomachs but huge hope in their hearts.

Since 2004 we have developed an ongoing fund raising program to develop various projects and do all we can to improve the quality of their life.

What we so often take for granted here is desperately needed over there. You can see more on this website about what has been achieved by generous private donations, from The VCC cricket club and other contributors.
